Lawn Fungus Treatment Options To Consider

by Al on April 11, 2011

It’s spring and many of you are wondering “do I need a lawn fungus treatment?” — The answer is most definitely “yes, it’s a good idea.”

When it comes to lawn fungus treatment options, you can go granular of liquid and both have pros and cons. But before we talk about that, we need to make sure you get the best lawn fungus control product that is available to homeowners. You see, we pros have licensing that allows us to get products you can’t, but if you are armed with the right knowledge, you can get something pretty close that works just as well.

Myclobutanil is the active ingredient in “Eagle Fungicide” that we pros use for control of a wide array of lawn and ornamental diseases. In fact, Eagle is the very best fungicide I have ever used, even better than Banner Fungicide.

And the good news, my friends, is that you can get a very similar product for use in your lawn that contains myclobutanil. It comes in liquid or granular and will control most lawn fungus problems for around 4 weeks.

That product is Immunox by Spectracide.

I have used the granular in my lawn, a tall fescue blended lawn susceptible to spring brown patch, and gotten great results. In fact, I tried it on purpose just so I could see it is worked as well as Eagle, and it does.

Fungus Prevention Is Key

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is that you gotta get it laid down PRIOR to disease pressure hitting the lawn to any great degree. Usually, spring fungus problems hit the lawns when temps get consistently into the 60s and then we get a couple days of daytime high 70s and night time lower 60s with moisture.

The weather pattern I just described right there: that’s a Midwest spring! LOL

So get your Immunox now either in granular that you apply with a spreader, or the hose-end sprayer for liquid. Apply an application treatment now, and again in Mid-May and you will be well covered during the wet periods when diseases hit lawns the hardest.

Trust me guys, a lawn fungus treatment is a really good idea, especially this year.
